Bert's Corner

Pen Enthusiast,

I can't believe November has come and gone so quickly. The Pen Fair on November 5th was one of our best with more manufacturers on hand then ever before. Waterman's new Exception collection was a big hit. Montblanc's Greta Garbo collection turned heads. Cross and Sheaffer were busy all day. The show stopper, Aurora's 85th Anniversary Fountain Pen and matching Rollerball made a huge impression.

Coming into December we will be shipping the next two pens in our special agreement with Delta: The Ainu Vermeil Ballpoint and the Don Quijote Exclusive Edition Green Ballpoint. Both collections will only be available at Bertram's. With 88 of each piece created they won't last long.

With the Holiday Season upon us I will be in the stores much more working late into the night, so please stop by for a visit. I've got great new pens to show from Montblanc, Aurora, Cross, Sheaffer, and many more! The new Deltas could keep us busy for a long time.

Well, gotta go...Jim and I are decorating the store for Christmas today.

Thank you for your continued support.

Bert

The Pen Guru

Jim is our resident pen guru. Jim knows so much about pens he has even been an expert witness in a court case!

Choosing the best pen as a gift can be quite easy if one applies a few simple rules. It's probably not a good idea to give a fountain pen as a gift unless the person is a fountain pen person or has asked for one. Rollerballs write great, but the refills tend to last for only about 30 pages. Ballpoint pens can write up to 300 pages with a Parker style refill. If the pen takes a Parker style refill, it will also take a gel refill.

A side note...Cross and Waterman rollerballs will take either rollerball, ballpoint or felt tip (fineliner) refills (the Cross will also take a highlighter).

Heavy is not always better, as it take a lot more skill to make a strong, lightweight pen than a heavy, strong one. Check the guarantee and reputation of the company with the salesperson; you may be surprised.

Finally, see what refill the pen takes. The more universal the refill, the easier it will be to find.

Happy Holidays
